Not forgotten

I made a couple more CW blocks today.
I love this chrome green with colonial red and this chrome yellow color scheme!
I've been so slow with my CW blocks lately so this block made me really happy.

最近サボり気味だったCWを２つほど仕上げました。
ちょっと中だれ状態だったのですが、今回のブロックの色みがかなり好きだったので、気持ちよく縫えました。
このグリーンと赤と黄色のブロック、かなり好きです。あ、一番って言っても過言じゃないほどに。次に、Girl Gangのハウスのボーダーも仕上げました。
ハウスがいっぱいです。(笑）
あともう一つボーダーがあって、それもハウスでいっぱい。というのか、このキルト自体がハウスでいっぱいなんだけど。。。

Very useful tool

　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　Kathie asked me about this Japanese marking tool last week.　
It called a "Hera".
Well, I had totally forgot about this tool. Last time I saw a Hera marker was when I was a little girl.
Japanese kids take sewing classes when they become 3rd grader. Yes, all of the kids, even boys.
We have to carry our own sewing box to class and the Hera marker is in it.
The Hera marker is commonly use by Kimono makers. It used to be made of ivory but since ivory is very expensive now it's now made of cow bones or plastics.
The Hera marker has different size and shapes.
I don't know much about making Kimonos but my friend Jun used to attend Kimono making class. So I asked her opinion about Hera and she told me she has been using it for making straight line in her quilt tops.
Now, I really need to try this Hera marker! I jumped in my car and drove to the nearest craft shop and grabbed mine. *LOL*
As you see in my picture, it's a wonderful tool! I don't know why I never thought about it before.....Daaarrrr....
I used to use a chalk marker for my quilt top but I'll use this Hera marker from now on. I don't need to keep purchasing chalk refill anymore. *S*

この前、Kathieさんからメールで「ヘラって知ってる？」と聞かれました。
ヘラ。。。。あのヘラだよね。。。。
私の記憶が正しければ（って、なんか何処かの番組の冒頭みたいだが）私がヘラを最後に見たのは。。。。小学生の時？？
家庭科の授業の為に持って行く裁縫箱の中に、チャコペンに押されながら「一体いつ使うのだろうか」という存在で収まっていた、あのヘラ。
で、ネットで調べたら、なんだか色んなサイズがあるんだねぇ。。。ヘラってば。
私にはイマイチよく分からなかったので、和裁を習っていた事のあるJunさんに聞いたところ、彼女もヘラでキルトトップに直線ラインを引くことがあるって事でした。
ヘラってば、凄いじゃん。と、慌てて近くの手芸店に駆け込み、私も買ってきましたよ、牛骨ヘラ。
で、キルトラインを引いてみると、これが凄く綺麗に消える事も無く引ける引ける。
今までチョークを使って引いていたこの直線、これからはヘラにお世話になることになります。
ヘラ様、今後もよろしく。

My vision

I just made this 1800's antique inspired doll quilt .
It's a bit narrow and smaller than the original one.
I purchased this lovely antique doll quilt top and wanted to make replica.

Here is a picture of original quilt top.


It's all hand pieced and the piecing skill is fare. I wonder if this quilt maker may have been a little girl.
She may have collected all her mother's left over fabric pieces and started practicing while her mother was making a quilt or fixing clothing..... They were sitting side by side in front of a warm fireplace.
This is just my imagination and I love to think of people's past time.
The antique quilts are always speaking to me and that's why I love them.

ドールキルトのトップを作りました。
これは私が購入した１８００年代のアンティークのドールキルトトップのレプリカです。といっても、私が作ったサイズはオリジナルよりも少し細めで小さいのですが。
このオリジナルのアンティークキルトは、全てのブロックがハンドピーシングです。
このキルトを見て私が一番初めに想像したのが、これは子供が縫ったものじゃないかしか？って事でした。裏を見ると、縫い目もマチマチです。でもそんな所が、またとても可愛く思えるのです。
小さな女の子が、お母さんから貰ったいらなくなった布の端を集めて作ったんじゃないかしら。。。。暖かな暖炉の火の側で、お母さんが裁縫をするその傍ら、女の子が一生懸命に手縫いの練習をしている、そんな光景が浮かんできます。

It came with this pretty thank you card and the doll's dress maker's business card.

The dress maker is Ms. Nami. She made this beautiful dress with loving care.

When I first saw this dress, I though it's so Scarlett-ish! Yes, Frankly My Dear, THE Scarlett.*LOL*

またまた、平井さんちのミーコちゃんが我が家にやってきました。

今回は金髪美人ちゃん。(笑）

いつものように、丁寧で美しい包装で送られてきました。

今回のミーコちゃんの服は、Doll dress makerのなみさんが作ってくださっています。

このドレスを見て直ぐに「スカーレットだ！」って思ったんです。そう、あの「風と共に去りぬ」のミス　スカーレット　オハラ。

布地は、よ～く見ると昔懐かしのブリキの金魚や文化人形なんかの柄です。このレトロな感じも私の好みです。

こうやって、どんどん増えてゆくのか。。。ミーコよ。。。。(笑）

What's up

As my move day gets closer, I have many relatives visiting me.
My 90 years (soon to be 91!) Grandma visited my house last week. We had a great time together and I hope we gave her lots of wonderful memories for Mother's Day.
Well, I want to make some apologies to all of you who left very warm comment on my blog.
I've been so busy and I haven't responded to your comment or visited your blog lately.
I miss you all. Yet my time is very minimum right now and I'm lucky if I could have a chance to even update my blog. :-(

I'm start organizing the quilt that I'm thinking about taking with me for our move.

I'm thinking my Dear Jane blocks will be one of them.

Well, I made some of the row already. So I'm stitching the sashing and blocks together right now.

Also I need to cut some fabrics and put them in the ziplocks bag so that I can take them with me.

I don't know how much stitching I'll be able to do. *S*

引越しの日にちが近づくにつれて、忙しさも増してきたのですが、その合間を縫って家族や親戚一同会える人には会っておかねば、という感じで 最近客人が多いです。

ゴールデンウィークから家族が来ていたのですが、その後も９０歳の祖母だけ残り１週間ほど一緒に過ごす事が出来ました。丁度おりしも「母の日」が最終日だったのですが、祖母に良い思い出の「母の日プレゼント」が出来たのではないかなぁって思っています。

そんな中、キルトの方はというと、旅行（正確には放浪、のようなものですが。爆）中に出来そうなキルトということでDear Janeを持って行こうかと思っています。

今までに作ってた分のブロックを只今サッシングを縫い合わせてはぎ合わせております。

これが終わると、そろそろ持って行く分のブロックの布のカッティングなんかをすることになります。

ま、旅の間どれだけ縫えるかは分かりませんが。。。。

Struggle

I made two Civil war blocks.

I know I'm behind on this project. I wanted to make 4-5 blocks a week but reality set in. I only can make 2 maybe 3 if I'm lucky.

On the other hand, I have a lot of on-going UFO and I really need to work on those projects too.

Civil warブロックを作りました。
最近ご無沙汰していたので、慌てています。このプロジェクトも、始めた当時は週に５枚ぐらいの目標だったんですけどね。。。。
今となっては、３枚、いや、２枚も出来ればいいとこって感じです。なかなか思うようにはならないってのが人生だなぁ。。。。。。
抱え込んでるUFOもいっぱいあるし、それも同時進行にしてるので、時間配分が難しいです。
もっと時間が欲しいよう。。。。。

California, Here I come!

My hubby got his orders to be stationed in California.
Yes, we are going back to CALIFORNIA!!!!!!! this summer. This means I will not be sewing for a couple of months.... yikes, couple months!

I better pack up some of my sewing caddies with some of my projects. Mmmmm.... which project should I take along with me for my trip....

今年の夏にアメリカに戻る事が決まりました。
という事で、引越しなんかを含めて丸2ヶ月近くはキルトが出来ない状態になりそうです。
う～ん。。。この間、ソーイングキットと一緒に何かプロジェクトを持って「旅」するかなぁ。。。
「旅」と書きましたが、ホントに旅なんですよ、家が決まるまでの間、ダーの両親の家に行き、またしてもアメリカ半横断の旅が始まります。
